Acupuncture Treatment for Addiction

Acupuncture can effectively help with withdrawal symptoms but you have to want to give up smoking, drugs or alcohol.

Treatment is based on a combination of ear acupuncture points that are used extensively in centres for drug addiction. Nicotine is a drug and the principle of alleviating withdrawal symptoms is the same, whether it is alcohol, heroin, cocaine or nicotine. The combination of points is called the 'NADA' protocol and are chosen because they influence the sympathetic nervous system, calm the mind and help the body detoxify. I may also use some body points according to the underlying patterns observed during the initial consultation. Daniel Elliott is a fully qualified NADA practitioner.

If particular problems or withdrawal symptoms arise during treatment then these will be addressed, for example, excessive hunger, mood swings/ irritability or difficulties sleeping. Therefore, even though a particular protocol is used, treatment will always be individualised to provide maximum benefit

Treatment is normally twice weekly to begin with and then once a week. It is best to refrain from smoking, drinking or drug use for at least five hours before your first appointment.

We have successfully helped people to give up smoking, recreational drugs, prescription medications and alcohol.
